In this frigid weather known as the Polar Vortex that is sweeping the
nation, you never know what is going to happen. It’s not safe for people to be
outside for long periods of time in these conditions.
Many people have gotten frost bite or their cars have went into ditches
or not started and its just not a good thing. It’s all over the nation. Which
is not good because many places in our nation are not prepared for this extreme
weather.
Fortunately or unfortunately, which ever way you want to look at it, in
Iowa we are prepared for this crappy Polar Vortex.
Like I said before this weather is not safe and many accidents happen.
According to the following article,
Ten year old, Danny DiPietro was coming home form his lacrosse practice
with his parents and thought that someone had left their dog outside in a
garage in this frigid cold.
His parents urged him that the people would bring their dog inside and
there was no need to worry. But they were all wrong.
After some time of Danny begging his parents to go back and check this
out at his neighbors house they finally did.
And they were all shocked at what they found.
They found 80-year-old Kathleen St. Onge on the floor of her garage. She
had fallen and couldn’t get up. She had tried to move herself to the front of
her garage hoping someone would see her then. This is what Danny had saw in the
car on his way home.
In the process of her moving herself she had lost her shoes and a glove.
That would make for very scary and frigid conditions. I can’t even imagine how
that would feel.
Danny’s parents called the police and covered her in blankets to keep
her warm while waiting for the ambulance.
According to the article above, “St. Onge was released on Wednesday
afternoon after being treated for hypothermia and dehydration. Doctors told her
family that she would not have survived an hour longer in the extreme cold.”
This is remarkable what this boy did.
His family should be very grateful for his persistence as well as the
St. Onge family. Which has expressed their gratitude to Danny’s family numerous
times.
Stay warm during this crazy Polar Vortex! It is not a safe place to be!
That is for sure!
