Young boy saves life

In this frigid weather known as the Polar Vortex that is sweeping the nation, you never know what is going to happen. It’s not safe for people to be outside for long periods of time in these conditions.

Many people have gotten frost bite or their cars have went into ditches or not started and its just not a good thing. It’s all over the nation. Which is not good because many places in our nation are not prepared for this extreme weather.

Fortunately or unfortunately, which ever way you want to look at it, in Iowa we are prepared for this crappy Polar Vortex.

Like I said before this weather is not safe and many accidents happen.

According to the following article,

Ten year old, Danny DiPietro was coming home form his lacrosse practice with his parents and thought that someone had left their dog outside in a garage in this frigid cold.

His parents urged him that the people would bring their dog inside and there was no need to worry. But they were all wrong.

After some time of Danny begging his parents to go back and check this out at his neighbors house they finally did.

And they were all shocked at what they found.

They found 80-year-old Kathleen St. Onge on the floor of her garage. She had fallen and couldn’t get up. She had tried to move herself to the front of her garage hoping someone would see her then. This is what Danny had saw in the car on his way home.

In the process of her moving herself she had lost her shoes and a glove. That would make for very scary and frigid conditions. I can’t even imagine how that would feel.

Danny’s parents called the police and covered her in blankets to keep her warm while waiting for the ambulance.

According to the article above, “St. Onge was released on Wednesday afternoon after being treated for hypothermia and dehydration. Doctors told her family that she would not have survived an hour longer in the extreme cold.”

This is remarkable what this boy did.

His family should be very grateful for his persistence as well as the St. Onge family. Which has expressed their gratitude to Danny’s family numerous times.

Stay warm during this crazy Polar Vortex! It is not a safe place to be! That is for sure!

Son Surprises his mom!

This is just a heart-warming headline that everyone loves to see. “Son surprises his mom, who is a diehard Seahawks fan, with Super Bowl tickets”

So there actually are really good people in this world.

According to the following article:

http://msn.foxsports.com/buzzer/story/son-surpries-his-mom-who-is-a-diehard-seahawks-fan-with-super-bowl-tickets-012914?g1=39002

Mike Harris surprised his mom with Super Bowl tickets this week. Wow! What a kid! I thought I was good to my mom.

According to the article, “The family has had season tickets since 2002. She cheered the team on with thousands of other fans as they left Seattle for New Jersey on Sunday, not knowing she was going to the Super Bowl.”

Mike Harris’ has been a Seahawks fan since the 1970s. Wow what a guy Mike Harris is.

This year the Super Bowl ticket prices went down due to weather and people not wanting to travel across the country in the Polar Vortex. So when the ticket prices dropped Mike Harris decided to make his mom one very happy lady.

This is quite impressive. Out of all the things moms do for their children this was for sure the best way Mike Harris could ever pay back his mom for all the moments in his life where she has made him feel special.

We need more people in this world like Mike Harris.

He got her the tickets in the tenth row of the end zone. Wow hell of a place to watch your favorite team in the Super Bowl. Not to mention he bought her plane tickets, and got them a hotel 2 miles from the stadium so that they would always be in the action of the Super Bowl.

WOW is all I can say about this gesture.

There is a video included with the article that Mike Harris took of his mom when the tickets arrived. Let me tell you it is the most heartwarming thing I’ve seen in a while. He had it all planned out from the minute he bought the tickets. Mike Harris had his mother come over and when the tickets got there, he opened the seal on the package and then handed the package to her.

Her face and her reaction, PRICELESS. She was like a kid in a candy store.

What we can all take from this is make sure you do something nice for your mom once in awhile.

The Super Bowl is Next Week!

The Super Bowl, the biggest event of the year for football fans. The Super Bowl is unlike any other event. All of America gathers around their TVs and grabs some chips and sandwiches and drinks to sit down with family and cheer on their team! And of course, enjoy the half time show because that’s everyone’s favorite.

The Super Bowl this year will be played in New York on Sunday, February 2nd. This years Super Bowl will be played between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks. This should be a good match up.

There is always so much buzz surrounding the Super Bowl. Many think it should be an American holiday? Which really most Americans already treat it like a holiday. I think making it an official holiday wouldn’t change the way we Americans feel about this huge event in sports every year.

How did the Super Bowl become such a big event for Americans? How do things like this event of the Super Bowl every year for the last 48 years, become apart of our American culture?

Those are questions we should ponder. This is because the Super Bowl means more to us Americans then a championship football game. It means family, friends, food, freedom, cheers, halftime shows, it’s just a way to celebrate the good things in America that no other country has.

It’s just one of those things that makes America unique.

The Super Bowl is of course about the football game but it also includes the entertainment of the half time show. This years entertainer is Bruno Mars. I find this an interesting choice because he is a very popular performer however for the standards of the Super Bowl, I’m not sure how they decided to choose Bruno Mars. But on a positive note, I’m excited to see his performance. Last year’s performer Beyonce was amazing. Many people bought tickets to the Super Bowl just so they could see her half time show.

The other part of the Super Bowl that many Americans look forward to the most is the commercials. The commercials are definitely a part of the American culture that comes along with the Super Bowl.

This year the University of Iowa’s dental school will get to air their commercial during the third quarter. Being from Iowa this is pretty big deal. The commercial features students and staff from Iowa City Regina high school’s football team. That would be pretty cool to be featured in a Super Bowl commercial as a high school student or teacher from a school in Iowa.

A link to that commercial can be found here:

Enjoy the Super Bowl!

Bicyclists on the road

Myself of all people will be the first to tell you that I do not like bicyclists on the road. In fact, I HATE bicyclists on the road.

Now it is a little bit better or more tolerable because there are bicycle lanes on the side of the road.

But really, why would you ride a bike on the side of the road with cars that could KILL you whooshing by you with many people who do not pay attention when driving. Seriously why?! That is so unsafe.

It is unsafe for the driver but even more, it is unsafe for bicyclists. Use the freakin’ sidewalks!

The reason I am ranting about bicyclists on the road is because recently there has been an article that was reported of a driver hitting a bicyclist and the bicyclist was stuck in his car and he just kept driving.  Like what?! No matter how many times you read that last paragraph you are still mindblown. How could someone do that? The world may never know what is wrong with some people.

In Manitowac, Wisconsin, the man who was hit spoke out about the incident.

According to an article that can be found here:

“A Wisconsin man who became lodged in the windshield of a car that struck him said he turned to the driver and said, "Hello, I'm the guy you hit on the bicycle."

The driver did not respond, but continued on, running a stop sign and hitting another vehicle before he arrived home, the cyclist, Steven Gove, told HTR Media about the Saturday incident.

The man finally noticed Gove when he stopped the car outside his home.”

Still my mind goes what?!

How could someone hit someone and then continue to not notice?

What I want to know is was this man intoxicated? Really? Hitting someone on a bike, not noticing, running a stop sign and then hitting another car then getting home and realizing all of this?

This man had to be intoxicated.  Am I the only one that thinks this?

In another case similar to this in Green Bay, Wisconsin, a man was charged with fifteen years of prison time for hitting a bicyclist and driving home with the biker in their windshield. However in this case the biker was killed instantly.

Do you think this person should be charged the same? I do but I want to know what you think.

Exorcism, are you serious?

Have you ever seen a scary movie? For example, one about exorcism? Those movies are scary!

If you don’t know what exorcism is, it can be defined as: the driving out of evil spirits: the use of prayers or religious rituals to drive out evil spirits believed to be possessing a person or place.

In the movies usually some sort of a religious leader comes in and says a bunch of gibberish prayers and the person who the exorcism is for makes all these weird body movements and behaves in an evil manner and the evil spirits are released this way and then they are fine. However, usually in the movies the evil spirit comes back.

I personally do not know exactly what a real exorcism looks like but it probably has to do with saying prayers and ridding your body of sins and the movie version of you acting evil and doing all these distortions with your body probably does not happen.

The reason I am talking about exorcism is because recently in the news it has been reported that two women killed children but claimed they were performing an exorcism and did not mean to harm the children.

Uhm.. what?!

The article on this can be found here:

According to the article, “The women, 28-year-old Zakieya Latrice Avery and 21-year-old Monifa Denise Sanford, have told investigators that they believed evil spirits skipped successively between the bodies of the children and that an exorcism was needed to drive the demons out, said Montgomery County State's Attorney John McCarthy.”

Seriously people? Did you watch too many scary movies or what?!

Another section of the article reads, “The women also reported to investigators that they saw the eyes of each of the children blackening and, after the intended exorcism, took a shower, cleaned up the bloody scene and "prepared the children to see God," McCarthy said. The children's two older siblings, a 5-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were also found injured with stab wounds.”

This obviously was a murder in my opinion. These women are delusional and told police they were apart of a group called “demon assassins”. Is this real life? LOL.

These women are psychotic and I’m not the only one who thinks so. They are both being forced to take a psych test.

I hope these women are charged with murder even if they are in fact proven to be psychotic because no one in this world should be out on the streets if they think they need to rid people from their demons this way.

The stresses of high school

Currently at school, registration for classes is just around the corner. Being in high school is stressful at times. You are always trying to figure out what to do next in life, for example, where you want to go to college, where you want to live, what you want to be, what job you want, what you want in your family, it’s pretty stressful to get to that next step in your life.

Right now being a junior in high school is quite stressful trying to figure out what things and classes I want to be a part of next year as my last year in high school. So many thoughts about what will prepare me for what I want to be and where I want to go for college. It gets pretty stressful.

With all this preparation and stress, how are you supposed to enjoy the “best four years of your life”? This is the question I want answers to. I want answers now. I wish life was just planned out for me so I would know if it was smart for me to pick to do this certain career path. It’s hard.

I know some people, including myself at times, that don’t know how to handle stress. So how are kids supposed to enjoy this time of high school and new beginnings with all this stress? What do kids do that don’t know how to deal with it?

I wish you could have a crystal ball and look into your future and see if that is the best fit for you.

All of this takes so much hard work and I think that’s why sometimes kids just don’t try in high school and give up on trying to be the best they can be in life.

There has to be an easier way for these people to carry on getting good grades, enjoying their activities and hanging out with friends. How come it is so hard to balance it all? Is this the part that prepares us for life?

I want answers. I want to know what’s the best for me. I want to know what’s the best college for me, the best career path, the best people to be around, the best way to study. Why aren’t these answers that just come to you?

Why do they have to be so hard to figure out?

I’m just ready for that next step once I get all these answers and I imagine many other students are with me on this one.
