Coca-Cola Part 2

The other side of the argument says that Coca-Cola was defacing a patriotic song.  This side could also display a valuable argument. As Americans, we generally sing patriotic songs in English. However, as an American you have freedom of speech as one of your first amendment rights. As an American you should be able to sing a patriotic song in whichever language you prefer. American’s have this freedom we should not question it. Another problem people had with this commercial was that it showed a gay couple, a man and a man together with their adopted daughter. All I have to say to that is this is the 20th century, it’s time we except this as normal. People have a right to love who they love, or speak their own language. This is the freedom of America.

Although this commercial stirred up controversy, the reality is that America is a country made up of different cultures and beliefs and with these different cultures comes different languages, and that’s what America is, we need to remember where we came from. Our nation is one nation; no matter what language we speak or who we love. That is our right as Americans. I applaud Coca-Cola for taking our nation, back to its roots whether people acknowledge this or not Coke did a good deed by airing this commercial. America is Beautiful and this beauty comes from the cultures and beliefs of our nation.

I want to know what you think.. comment below to let me know your true feelings on the Coca-Cola 2014 Super Bowl commercial.

Do you think it crossed the line?

Coca-Cola Commercial Controversy

Many people in America every year look forward to watching the Super Bowl for the big game, the half time show and of course the commercials. That is what the Super Bowl is all about. However, sometimes the Super Bowl commercials, like any commercials have relayed the wrong message. This year Coca-Cola’s commercial features people of all cultures across America, singing, “America the Beautiful” in different languages, this stirred up a nation wide controversy. The reality is that America is a country made up of different cultures and with these different cultures comes different languages, and that’s what America is, we need to remember where we came from.

The Coca-Cola Super Bowl commercial was made to remind us of who we are as Americans. America is a country that brought freedom to so many immigrants from all over the world. America means freedom to all. Many people who are caucasian or white, were very bothered by the song “America the Beautiful” being sung in different languages. In America, we are a nation made up of different cultures. Our country’s main language may be English but many American’s speak other languages as well.  According to the 2007 US census, 80 percent of American’s speak English as their primary language at home(Shin). But these still leaves 20 percent of our population that was speaking a language other than English at this time. At this time the population consisted of 301.23 million (US Population By Year) that would mean that 60.246 million people in the United States in 2007 did not speak English. This proves that this commercial is accurate. What some of these Caucasian people said about the commercial was very derogatory towards other races and cultures. The thing that outraged me the most, was after this commercial aired there was a hash tag or trending topic on the social media site of twitter, that read “#speakamerican”. First of all, we speak English; this shows the ignorance of my generation. Second of all, this is America! We need to embrace our cultural differences.

More to Come...

Stress

Currently at school, registration for classes is just around the corner. Being in high school is stressful at times. You are always trying to figure out what to do next in life, for example, where you want to go to college, where you want to live, what you want to be, what job you want, what you want in your family, it’s pretty stressful to get to that next step in your life.
Right now being a junior in high school is quite stressful trying to figure out what things and classes I want to be a part of next year as my last year in high school. So many thoughts about what will prepare me for what I want to be and where I want to go for college. It gets pretty stressful.

With all this preparation and stress, how are you supposed to enjoy the “best four years of your life”? This is the question I want answers to. I want answers now. I wish life was just planned out for me so I would know if it was smart for me to pick to do this certain career path. It’s hard.

I know some people, including myself at times, that don’t know how to handle stress. So how are kids supposed to enjoy this time of high school and new beginnings with all this stress? What do kids do that don’t know how to deal with it?

I wish you could have a crystal ball and look into your future and see if that is the best fit for you.

All of this takes so much hard work and I think that’s why sometimes kids just don’t try in high school and give up on trying to be the best they can be in life.

There has to be an easier way for these people to carry on getting good grades, enjoying their activities and hanging out with friends. How come it is so hard to balance it all? Is this the part that prepares us for life?

I want answers. I want to know what’s the best for me. I want to know what’s the best college for me, the best career path, the best people to be around, the best way to study. Why aren’t these answers that just come to you?

Why do they have to be so hard to figure out?

I’m just ready for that next step once I get all these answers and I imagine many other students are with me on this one.

Life

In America, the average person lives to be 79 years old. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a way we could live longer? I know I want more than 79 years of my life.

Americans’ life expectancy is only 26th highest. Life expectancy in the U.S. has risen, in 1970 life expectancy at birth was 70.9 years, and it rose to 78.7 by 2011.

Recently, Wall Street researched countries’ life expectancy rates based on the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development releasing a report with the latest life expectancy figures for its thirty four member nations as well as several other developed nations.

In the countries with higher life expectancy, the people that live there tend to be healthier than in other countries.

The majority of these countries with high life expectancies have below-average rates of cancer and diabetes.

Spain, Iceland, Japan, Italy and Switzerland are rated in the top five for highest life expectancy.

See y’all later guys looks like I’m moving to Spain!

Spain is ranked number 5 for longest life expectancy. The average life expectancy in Spain is 82.4 years old. That sounds a little better than 79 years here in America.

Iceland ranked number 4 for longest life expectancy also has an average life expectancy of 82.4 years old. According to the article linked below: “Only 14.3% of Iceland’s population were daily smokers as of 2011, less than all but three other countries reviewed. Alcohol consumption in 1990 was low compared with most European countries. Eighteen years later, alcohol consumption was still relatively low, at just over seven liters per person, less than most other developed nations.”

This is impressive. This is how people are staying healthier as a nation and living longer. You go Iceland!

Number three ranked Japan has a life expectancy average of 82.7 years old. This sounds even better! According to the article: “Just 4.1 percent of Japanese adults were obese in 2011, vs. 36.5 percent in the U.S.” AKA the U.S. is fat. We need to find healthier ways of life.

Italy is ranked number two on the average life expectancy list with an average age of 82.7 years old. Most of the country of Italy is on a diet called the “Mediterranean diet” which consists of fruits, vegetables, and olive oil and is very healthy for you.

We need to get on this diet plan!

To top of the list, the number one country for average life expectancy is Switzerland, with an average age of 82.8 years old. It’s probably Switzerland’s health care plan that makes them the most healthy and to live longer.

Take a few minutes out of your day to read up on this subject. It will educate you and make you want to become part of a healthier nation.

Looks like I will see you guys in Switzerland!

Thanks for the laughs!

For anyone who has watched Saturday Night Live in the last 12 years you’ve probably caught a good laugh at the segment that airs every episode called “The Weekend Update With Seth Meyers”. Seth has probably got you laughing more than you think with his outlook on things in the news and his comical twist on them.

Seth Meyers had his last episode of Saturday Night Live yesterday, Saturday February 1. This was a sad moment for members of the cast and many Saturday Night Live fans. Seth Meyers segment is a segment that many people, including myself look forward to toning into every week.

Meyers called his "SNL" journey "the job I always wanted." Wouldn’t you love to have a job you’ve always wanted?

So why leave Saturday Night Live you ask?

Well Seth Meyers will be expanding his career and taking his lovable talents to new heights. Seth Meyers will now be the new host of the show “Late Night”.

This will be an exciting adventure for Seth and I know he will attract new followers to that show including myself.

As for Saturday Night Live and their “Weekend Update” head writer Colin Jost will replace Meyers at the anchor desk alongside Cecily Strong who has been hosting the “Weekend Update” this season with Seth Meyers.

This will bring a new twist to this sketch of Saturday Night Live but if it’s anything like the rest of SNL it will be a good twist.

The new Saturday Night Live “Weekend Update” will appear on March 1st. As for the rest of the month SNL will not be airing new episodes.

Information for this blog post provided by:

I feel that Saturday Night Live did a great job ending Seth Meyer’s career with them. They still stuck to their true SNL comedy but they also shed a few tears and brought back some old friends on Seth. SNL alumni Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and Fred Armisen all cast members helped Seth say goodbye.

This was a great way to show that the cast and the fans of SNL love Seth Meyers and thank him for his 12 years on the show.

Congrats on your new beginnings Seth and thanks for all the laughs!

Be sure to tip!

10 people you aren’t tipping enough.. Hmm.. this actually sounds like an interesting article.

Makes me wonder what people are not getting tipped. Recently, I have started my working experience in the restaurant business and I feel that sometimes people don’t tip us, and usually it happens to be the people who were the most difficult and frankly, the people who were actually not very nice to begin with.

This article explains how much percent of your bill you are expected to tip for certain services. I find this very intriguing. Good job news outlets!

This article can be found here:

According to the article, people are often wrong when guessing how much to tip people for their services.

The part of the article that got me however, was the part where it states that only thirty-eight percent of Americans feel obligated to tip someone who delivers something to them. I think this is wrong.

People need to think about things from the other person’s perspective more. Think of it this way…

You are a delivery man moving a couch into someone’s home. You get paid less than you should but you work hard without complaining. The house you deliver it to has some difficulties with getting it into the door, so you problem solve because this is your job and you and your co-worker get the couch through their garage door verses their front door. This works out for you but it also took up more time and more heavy lifting for you because you couldn’t use your machine to help you. Then the people you are delivering to, don’t tip you.

How would that make you feel? Not very good is my guess. I know I wouldn’t like it if someone didn’t tip me when I’m serving them. People need to have more courtesy in this world. You obviously have some money, just a few dollars, to spare if you are buying new furniture so pay the poor man who is slaving away to help you!

According to the article you owe that man five or ten dollars. So think about you just shorted him money to buy his lunch. Good job.

This is not unreasonable at all. People who provide a service should be tipped that’s just how it works. So think about this next time.
